HOW DO I BRUSH MY DOODLE CORRECTLY?

Brushing your doodle regularly is one of the most important things you can do to keep their coat healthy and prevent painful mats. Because doodle coats can be thick, curly, and dense, simply running a brush over the top of the coat may not be enough. Using the right tools and technique can make a big difference in keeping your pup’s coat manageable between grooming appointments.
START WITH THE RIGHT TOOLS
A slicker brush and a metal comb are two helpful tools for maintaining a doodle coat at home. The slicker brush helps work through loose hair and tangles, while the comb helps you check that you have brushed all the way down to the skin. Your groomer can also help you choose the right tools based on your dog’s individual coat.
DON'T JUST BRUSH THE TOP
One of the most common mistakes when brushing a doodle is only brushing the surface of the coat. Because doodle coats are often thick and dense, mats can develop underneath the top layer where you cannot easily see them. Once you finish brushing a section, use your comb to make sure you can smoothly get through the hair all the way to the skin. Instead of brushing your dog’s entire coat at once, work in small sections from the bottom of the coat upward. Part the hair so you can see the skin and gently brush through each section before moving to the next.
